A project update from the co-chairs of the Washington Park Playground Rebuild Committee:

Dear Neighbors,

Thank you for your interest in the Washington Park Playground rebuild project. We appreciate the patience of everyone engaged in this project – between COVID, due diligence to a comprehensive community engagement process, and the City’s schedule, we’re aware that folks recognize we’ve been at this for a while!

Based on online and paper surveys, an in-person public meeting in the park, ongoing conversations with DGS, Mayor Sheehan’s office, stakeholders, and the playground committee, our consultant TWMLA has constructed a finalized concept design plan with which we can move into next steps. Please enjoy taking your time to look through the linked Washington Park Playground Plan, which includes a detailed description of the process thus far and a current concept design in both plan and rendering form.  To be clear, this is a concept design and not a schematic design or construction document – the details come later! Please reach out to Sarah Read if you have questions or would like to discuss.

Just before the new year, we were able to meet directly with Mayor Sheehan, representatives from several offices at City Hall, DGS, and Jonathan Jones from Recreation to share the plan and discuss next steps. We look forward to working with the City of Albany on the next phase of this project, and are in their planning pipeline to move towards achieving a schematic design. We are looking to City Hall for more details on this within the month, as they organize and allocate their project management resources.

Please continue to talk up the project within your communities – let’s keep the excitement high!

Thanks so much for your participation in this process,

Sarah Read & Michaela Roberts
