Conservancy Events & Programs
The Conservancy’s Annual Meeting, usually held in late winter or early spring, provides an opportunity for Conservancy members to get together after the long days of winter, celebrate the previous year’s achievements, and gear up for the busy Park season ahead. Notable guest speakers often enhance the event with discussions of timely and engaging subjects related to the Park.

Arbor Day in Washington Park
The Conservancy is working with the group ‘Albany Goes Green’ to celebrate Arbor Day with planting new trees in Washington Park. Partners in ‘Albany Goes Green’ including the Albany Fund for Education, College of Saint Rose, NYS DEC, Cornell Cooperative Extension & Master Gardeners] have provided education and Arbor Day celebrations to students of Albany schools and marks the 10th year of its collaboration in 2019.

Tulip Dig and Sale
The Tulip Dig and Sale is an annual rite of spring in Washington Park in May, eagerly anticipated by area residents and avid gardeners inspired by the Park’s glorious tulip plantings to beautify their own gardens. The Conservancy organizes the two day event, held on a weekend following the Tulip Festival, working with the Albany City Gardener and her staff.

Held in the Lake House, September Splendor is the Conservancy’s signature fundraising activity and celebrates the beauty of our historic park at a lovely time of year. An end-of-summer tradition in Washington Park, September Splendor is the only event that raises funds to preserve and improve this historic park.

A new tradition in Washington Park, the Lantern Parade is a celebration of community and creativity that lights up the night as the days shorten towards winter. In 2018, nearly 1,000 people participated in the third annual Lantern Parade on November 4! The Lantern Parade is the culminating event after months of lantern-making workshops at locations throughout the city of Albany

Other Conservancy-sponsored programs in and around the Park include walks for birding enthusiasts and architectural and neighborhood history tours, as well as tours of the trees, shrubs and flowers in the Park.
