Conservancy Events & Programs


Mother Nature had other ideas this year, and we need to postpone the Tulip Dig & Sale by one week.

The Tulip Dig and Sale is an annual rite of spring in Washington Park in May, eagerly anticipated by area residents and avid gardeners inspired by the Park’s glorious tulip plantings to beautify their own gardens.  


Saturday, May 25: TULIP DIG

You dig them, you buy them!

START TIME: 9:00am (Dig begins at 9:00 but come early to get in line!  Event ends when all bulbs have been dug, usually before 11)

LOCATION:  Tulip Beds around the Moses Fountain

PROCESS: The tulip dig is limited strictly to designated beds, under the direction of park staff and volunteers. 

FEE: $5.00 for a bag of 30, limit 5 bags per person, while supplies last. Cash is preferred and smaller denominations are greatly appreciated.


  • Event will proceed rain or shine.
  • There will be a limited number of garden forks available to borrow for digging, but we urge you to bring your own. NO SHOVELS OR SPADES.
  • Bags for the bulbs and planting instructions will be provided


  • A long-handled garden fork
  • Garden Gloves
  • Comfortable, gardening-appropriate footwear
  • A hat


Sunday, May 26: TULIP SALE

No digging required!


START TIME: 9:00am (Doors open at 9:00 am but come early to get in line! We will probably be sold out before 11:00 am)

LOCATION: Washington Park Lake House

PROCESS:  Participants can purchase tulip bulbs that are already dug up and have been roughly pre-sorted by color.

FEE: $5 for a bag of 30 bulbs, limit 2 bag per person, while supplies last.    Cash is preferred and smaller denominations are greatly appreciated.

Proceeds from the Tulip Dig & Sale support the Washington Park Conservancy’s efforts to help the city restore, preserve, and maintain Albany’s historic Washington Park.
