Bleecker Park

Copied from “Tercentenary of Albany”

"Bleecker Park is a triangle sward, shaded by old elms in front of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, at Eagle Street and Madison Avenue."

In 1835, the City appropriated $1,000.00, and citizens raised a fund to enclose it with an iron fence.  William Fleming presented to this park the first public fountain ever erected in this City, which was dedicated in July 1863.

Mayor Jennings, and Water Department Commissioner, Robert Cross, restored the fountain plumbing

in 1998, to use fresh water only.  This fountain, the King Memorial, and the Dana memorial
are the only three fountains in the City which are supplied with fresh water.
